The 1st course is laid on a 2cm. Minimum HOURDEX mortar bed.

It is essential that this course is perfectly level.

To ensure this one should check the level of the slab from its highest point and use laser levelling to lay the HOURDEX bed.

Column blocks are placed at the corners and in other areas according to the design and slot over the reinforcing rods (2 to 4).

Hourdex mortar is waterproofed and acts as a damp course. If required, as an extra precaution, a damp course can be inbedded in the Hourdex mortar.

The blocks slot into each other thanks to a male-female design.

The take off points of various utilities are positioned in the slab.

It is an advantage to design floor plans, elevations and various openings taking into account the block sizes. This will accelerate the construction time.

If necessary a Multipurpose block can be sawn to provide an infill into a run.

Checking the level of the first course. If necessary, use a rubber hammer to tap the blocks.

With a mortar roller, butter the top of the blocks. Mortar is applied on the perp end of the block attached to a column block. Only in seismic areas is necessary to apply mortar to all perp joints.

The placing of blocks above a course must take place within 15 minutes from the application of the mortar.

Mortar must be applied to at least 80% of the surface. This is easily achieved by using the specifically designed mortar roller, available from Bouyer Leroux stockists.
